#WeNeedDiverseBooks, or one year DiversifYA!

Before we resume our normal posting (with a fantastic DiversiTheme by Emily Jiang, is just an hour), I’m stealing the mic for a little while.

DiversifYA is one today. It’s been a whole YEAR.

Time has flown by, and we’ve featured many amazing people on our site, we’ve had even more people who’ve expressed an interest, and a veritable diversity army spreading the word. And yesterday, this:

Johnson County Library, ilu.

At our first birthday, this I know:

I’m so grateful for you. I can’t express how fantastic you all are, changing literary landscape one word at a time.

I’m so grateful for my co-mods. Alex, who was here when it all started and is still one of our staunchest supporters. Sarah, who keeps me and DiversifYA going, every single day. And Kaye, whose passion for diversity is inspiring and empowering.

But if there’s anything I’ve learned it’s that we need more. We need to see all the experieces we’ve shared in our books, in the stories we tell, in the heroes we give our readers.

So we’re incredibly honored to be part of #WeNeedDiverseBooks, a campaign spearheaded by the indomitable Ellen Oh. Today, tomorrow, and Saturday, we’re making our voice heard. We’re changing the world, and we’d love for you to join us.

So check out the campaign post, get in those photos, diverse book recommendations, experiences. Diversify your shelves. Continue speaking up. Because we can’t do this without you.

We couldn’t and can’t do DiversifYA without you either.

Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Here’s to many more years to come.
